This is an exciting time in Channel 5’s digital evolution as My5, Channel 5’s VOD service, has been placed at the heart of the Channels growth strategy. ViacomCBS/Channel 5 are seeking an exceptional individual to drive forward the product development and continuous optimisation of the My5 suite of applications


What will you be doing?

Reporting to the Senior Director of Product, this role will take control of a portfolio of digital products and manage their continuous optimisation, to meet ViacomCBS Media Networks International (VCNI) commercial, consumer and brand objectives.

The role is primarily concerned with working out what to build, finding opportunities or user problems and how best to respond to them through user centred design and validation. Then leading all aspects of the implementation of solutions that best answer the opportunity and achieves our objectives.

  • Lead the entire product life-cycle, including design, discovery, planning, delivery, product acceptance, and operational handover
  • Using research, competitor analysis, understanding of our customers and how they use our products and a knowledge of the wider digital landscape to suggest and assess product opportunities and ideas.
  • Lead product experimentation and discovery, developing opportunities for growth or answering user problems through iterative design and user validation.
  • Measure and improve the efficiency of the development process.
  • Form collaborative relationships with development and design teams, business stakeholders and third-party suppliers to ensure that their input is considered and valued and the output meet the budget, deadline and required quality
  • Manage a prioritised backlog of product ideas, defining product requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Monitor status of ongoing work and articulate progress, dependencies, and risks to the product team, engineering and other stakeholders
  • Stay on top of industry changes, through self-research/learning that may have a direct impact on product
  • Lead product meetings, workshops, sprint demos and demonstrate good presentation and speaking skills

What are we looking for?

  • You should have a passion for digital products, the television industry, and its future development.
  • Be a natural creative problem solver, capable of driving a user-centred approach to product discovery and development.
  • Be comfortable leading experimentation and testing to prove user and business value and determine what features or enhancements we should develop, including interacting directly with users
  • Be highly organised in your approach, detail oriented whilst being capable of understanding the broader business context of your decisions.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, able to interrogate statistical data and make evidence-based decisions on where to focus effort.
  • Be intellectually curious, a reader and studier of product management thinking and practices
  • Experience in working within agile software development, preferably at enterprise scale.
  • 3 years + experience in a digital product role. We are particularly keen to talk to candidates coming from UXD, UX research or analytics backgrounds or candidates with experience in these areas
  • Experience working with Video products across the device landscape - mobile, desktop, connected TV/set top boxes an advantage
  • Demonstrable ability to lead and take ownership of problems and think creatively to solve them
  • Task management, problem-solving skills and the ability to manage internal and external relations.
