Evaluate episodic scripts and storyboards for CG do-ability and ensure that they work within the confines of our production model. Instruct on the filmmaking, continuity, and staging of each segment, make notes on vendor studios’ animation, build any layout, key poses, video notes necessary to guide vendor studios in completing the animation.


  • Understanding of animation, film language, and process.
  • Able to draw. Good draftsmanship is a must.
  • Able to animate in 2D
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Maya.
  • Able to animate in Maya
  • Solid understanding of camera and focal lengths
  • Test character rigs.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good time management skills; good multi-tasker.
  • Ability to work in high pressure, demanding environment.
  • Provide a demo reel showcasing previous animation work.
  • Provide a drawing/illustration portfolio


  • Translate the 2D vision of the show to 3D while keeping the feel of the original 2D boards. Adapt to and maintain the established style of the show.
  • Review episodic animation at all stages of production, provide feedback and direction to animators/studios.
  • Draw all characters on model as reference for Overseas animation department.
  • Occasionally re-storyboard scenes.
  • Attend meetings early in the process to understand the episode’s direction and requirements prior to animation beginning.
  • Review designs and breakdown decisions to help direct from the front on new or reused assets.
  • Create Pose Libraries for episodic characters.
  • To be the custodian of the Animation style of the show. Primary teacher of the animation style to all other artists, including Overseas.

Additional Qualifications

  • BA/BS preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 – 5 years of CG directing experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Shotgun preferred.
