CG Lead Environment Artist (Star Trek: Prodigy)

  • Work with Supervisors to create Models, UVs and Rigs for environments, props, and vehicles based on script and animatic requirements.
  • Prepare assets to meet requirements for animation and rendering through a Maya/Redshift pipeline.
  • Possess advanced knowledge of modeling both organic and hard surface environments and props, Maya’s Scene Assembly system, organizing complex hierarchies, creating low res proxies, and utilizing IK – FK – and Deformer based rigs.
  • Conduct the first approval evaluation of all assets created by team members and vendors.
  • Create “Build” notes that accompany approved designs for asset launches. Notes should satisfy the pipeline, the episode’s needs, and address the requirements of the artist.
  • Give clear and direct instructions and feedback, including reference images and annotations.
  • Work with the Lead Character Modeler and Lead Character TD to make the episode manageable within the CG Department’s parameters.
  • Complete tasks within the time allotted and maintain communication with Production team on asset schedules and timelines.
  • Create thorough modeling and rigging guidelines for each set design (built at vendor studio), and review set models when completed.
  • Lead team of Environment Artists by enforcing aesthetics, technical quality, and timelines for each assignment.
  • Review animatics/designs and give suggestions and/or solutions to the Supervising Producer to make the episode fit within the given parameters.
  • Build block-in assets and logic out temporary camera placement and set locations to ensure set is built to support action based on script and animatic reference.


  • Extensive knowledge, experience, and skill set working in a Maya production pipeline.
  • Proficient modeling and UVs skills, and some rigging experience.
  • Ability to lead a small team of other generalists, in both aesthetics and time management.
  • A great "can do" attitude and open-mindedness to non-traditional solutions is essential.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The candidate should have problem solving skills and be comfortable thinking outside of the box.

Additional Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of industry experience in film, broadcast, and/or games.
  • Experience with Rigging props and vehicles.
  • Maya/Python scripting experience.
