Role Details:
CBSSports digital team is looking for a VP of engineering to fuel the growth and output of our engineering teams for our premium sports brands, while maintaining alignment with our product vision and business objectives. These engineering teams are responsible for building world-class products, for our passionate audience, across our web platforms, iOS, and Android applications! Does this sound like you?


Your Day-to-Day:

  • Lead development of all technical aspects of the company’s strategy in alignment with corporate business goals
  • Prioritize requirements from competing business interests and build consensus across teams
  • Help define and support the implementation of key performance metrics for our sports engineering teams
  • Help set and fulfill the engineering hiring plan for the teams, including sourcing, screening, and interviewing
  • Mentor and grow engineers while keeping them engaged and focused on the product and company vision
  • Provide technical/software development leadership and architectural guidance
  • Build and manage relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders, including product owners, ad operations teams, external vendors, and executives
  • Work in a fast-paced AGILE environment. This should be second nature (TDD, SCRUM, Kanban, etc.) with evolutionary architecture and prototyping, experience with various databases, and configuration/deployment/testing solutions.
  • Collaborate with technical and business resources, gathering and documenting requirements and formulating action plans.
  • Present designs and plans to executive management.

 

Basic Qualifications:
The ideal candidate possesses the highest level of experience in leadership, application development, software engineering, and application architecture. We are ideally looking for these skills and experiences:

  • BS/MS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years as a hands-on engineer solving hard scaling problems horizontally
  • 7+ years leading and building a team of engineers
  • Proven experience building and shipping Android or iOS applications
  • Excellence in problem-solving, strategic thinking, and working in a team-oriented environment
  • Good understanding of data caching strategies and working knowledge of CDNs (Akamai, CloudFront, Fastly)
  • Experience mentoring developers and growing leadership within an organization
  • Deep understanding of current web delivery technologies and trends, including Linux, RESTful APIs, GraphQL, Relational & NoSQL Datastores(MySQL, Redis, DynamoDB), among others.
  • Experience with client-side frameworks such as React, AngularJS, and Node.js
  • Experience integrating ad serving products and analytics/reporting tools into desktop and mobile experiences
  • Shown ability to meet deadlines with an exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience working with both Agile and Waterfall development processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well with technical and non-technical members of the organization

 

You might also have:

  • Past experience in a large scale internet based organization, media company or agency
  • You love sports, fantasy sports and sports gaming
  • Good understanding of server and cloud computing technologies from providers such as AWS, GCP, and Azure
  • Experience with Git/GitHub, BitBucket, or similar version control systems
  • Good understanding of edge computing such as Fastly C@E, Lambda@Edge and Cloudflare Workers
