CBS is looking for a dynamic, passionate meteorologist for a newly created opportunity forecasting for CBS New York, CBS Saturday Morning, and our CBS News Stream.  This high-profile role requires a skilled storyteller who presents an engaging and authoritative forecast that is relatable and helpful.

CBS is developing a state of the art, immersive, 3D weather presentation system.  We seek a weather enthusiast, who’s passionate about telling weather stories in ground-breaking ways.   Someone who thrives in an innovative, trailblazing environment, with the confidence to take risks and break outside traditional weather presentation. 

Top candidates must have superior forecasting and storytelling skills. Ability to produce easy to understand and informative visuals, maps, and graphics to communicate the weather story to audiences on air, online and on social media platforms. They will also have a wealth of experience covering live severe weather in a breaking news scenario. Live experience participating in and reporting on community-related events and/or subject-matter specialist engagements is critical. AMS Seal required and knowledge of WSI weather systems preferred. Must be able to bring together and collaborate with meteorologists and weather team members across CBS News and Stations to comprehensively cover the national weather story with local style and engagement. 

  

To be considered you must provide examples of on-air presentation during severe weather (both in studio and in the field). Behind the scenes, it is essential that this position work closely with news management, newscast producers, program anchors and the digital team to execute News and Stations weather strategy.  

 
Responsibilities:

Create forecasts in alignment with the First Alert brand for CBS New York
Create forecasts tailored for a national audience for CBS Saturday Morning, tracking the most significant weather patterns across the country
Contribute to First Alert Weather team coverage, both in studio and in the field
Report on the impact of climate change across the tri-state area


Required:  

B.S. Degree in Meteorology or Earth Sciences
At least 10 Years on air experience weather casting and weather producing 
Maintain a steadfast commitment to forecasting accuracy
Proficient in weather graphics production 
AMS Seal required 
Ability to live field report and write packages 
Experience with severe weather coverage 


PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

Hands-on WSI weather system knowledge and ability to employ all functions on multiple platforms
Ability to write, shoot and edit video 
Awareness and a passion for the latest graphical tools to tell the story of weather, including AR/VR knowledge.  
Knowledge of the tri-state area
Willingness to shoot, write and edit stories as needed

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 

Hiring Salary Range: $106,080.00 - 175,000.00. 

 

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.  The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable,  as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
