This Editorial Assistant will report to a VP Editorial Director for the Little Simon imprint. Responsibilities include all administrative duties- scheduling meetings, routing materials both in-house and to authors and artists and liaising with all departments. On the editorial side the position includes writing manuscripts and preparing catalog, tip sheets and flap copy, as well as coordinating the editorial and production process with various departments. The Editorial Assistant takes part in all creative meetings and will contribute ideas for manuscripts, programs, and formats as well as evaluate submissions. Management of manuscripts in all stages of production includes: preparing manuscripts for copyediting and production; keeping track of books in the production and editorial process; tracking paperwork internally and externally; and liaising with authors/agents/illustrators and licensors and other departments in a professional manner. This is a fast-paced imprint with many accelerated schedules, so individual must be able to juggle multiple projects and prioritize tasks.

 

Bachelor's degree required
Excellent communication and writing skills required

Some writing background required

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong time management skills
Ability to set priorities under pressure
Willingness to take initiative and to complete projects independently

Ability to think creatively and contribute editorial and format ideas and concepts
