We are looking for a creative problem solver who thrives with creative challenges. The Designer is responsible for the concept and design execution of 30+ cover and interior designs per year across various nonfiction lifestyle categories. Book design will vary from 1/c to full 4/c process design. Design will range from all text to full photographic layouts that align with the strategic vision and aesthetic for the project. Each designer is also responsible for the creation of 5-10 varied photography mood boards per year. Designer also responsible for the creation of marketing assets throughout the year: A+ assets, sell-sheets, video and miscellaneous collateral as needed.


Ideal candidate will possess good design sensibility (demonstrated in portfolio), exceptional use of typography, a solid understanding of color spaces, be well versed with appropriate use of art, and have the ability to interpret a design concepts from written creative brief. Candidate should be able to bring solid design concepts to full final execution with ease, and be able to adjust designs to align with market opportunities as needed. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment, and be able to manage multiple deadlines. Ability to deliver an aesthetically driven, market viable design is essential.


Candidate must have solid CC technical experience with InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator. Experience with long format document layout (Character Styles, Paragraph Style Sheets, Master Pages), solid understanding of print capabilities, and offset guidelines/terminology. Ideal candidate will be process driven, and able to carry out job responsibilities with minimal guidance after training. Candidate should be familiar with our publishing program and must be willing to work on all categories published by our imprint. Illustration skills are a plus but not required. A minimum 2 years of comparable work experience needed.
