CBS News is seeking an executive producer to serve as the point person for its Washington, D.C.-based streaming coverage! They will work with politics editors and correspondents in the D.C. bureau, as well as editorial leads in New York, to set the daily agenda for political coverage on the CBS News Streaming Network and to lead an hour long daily politics program. Top candidates for this position will demonstrate an insatiable passion for political journalism and have the ability to look beyond the top headlines of the day to identify original, newsworthy angles that will resonate with a broad audience within and outside of the beltway.


The executive producer for politics will bring:

  • At least ten years of experience producing live segments and taped programming, with recent experience in a national newsroom or top local market

  • At least seven years of experience working as a show producer in a live control room

  • Specific examples of growing in a breaking news environment, producing impactful journalism on deadline and under tight time constraints

  • A background in producing live interviews that break news and bring new information to the audience in a clear and compelling fashion

  • The capability to balance multiple daily and long term editorial priorities while remaining organized and maintaining a professional demeanor

  • Proven success building, developing, and leading a large, diverse team of people

  • Deep knowledge of politics and a dedication to telling stories that convey the impact of politics outside of D.C.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading a team to produce an hour-long daily politics program, including writing intros, tags and questions, as needed

  • Working with booking producers and D.C. editorial producers to secure newsmakers for live interviews

  • Delivering a line-up of correspondent segments and live interviews for daily programming across the streaming network’s other dayside and evening shows

  • Attending daily politics meetings and working with the politics team to identify and develop original story angles

  • Serving as the key point of contact in the bureau for the streaming network during breaking news

  • Mentoring, developing, and training a team of producers

  • Creating and supporting a positive work culture

  • Must be able to work early mornings, late nights, weekends and unpredictable hours based on news and coverage needs


This role is based in Washington, D.C. and is not eligible for remote work.
